Rockingham Centre is proud to announce John's Vision has been selected as the recipient of a community grant from the 2024 Vicinity Community Grants program. This funding will support them in their mission to aid and improve the eye health of our most vulnerable communities.

The Vicinity Community Grants program, now in its second year, aims to bolster community resilience and connectedness nationwide by empowering local groups. Aaron Bennett, Centre Manager of Rockingham Centre understands and supports the impact this grant will have. "The grant will enable John’s Vision to gain the clinical testing equipment and supply of free glasses to aid and improve the eye health of their patients.”

John's Vision provides free services at their visits to local community centres and soup kitchens. Their goal is to reduce rates of preventable blindness in homeless and low socio-economic communities. It aligns with the broader goals of Vicinity's Community Grants program, which focuses on areas of community wellbeing, environmental sustainability, education, youth engagement and youth underemployment. With a total funding pool of $110,000, the program underscores Vicinity's commitment to nurturing meaningful connections within the communities surrounding its centres.

Launched in 2023, the Vicinity Community Grants initiative has quickly become a cornerstone of Vicinity's community involvement strategy. By supporting initiatives like John’s Vision, Vicinity continues to strengthen its ties with local communities, ensuring they remain interconnected.
